About

👋 Hi! I'm Adrian, and this is my personal website and blog.

About me

I'm a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Nearmap based in Sydney. Currently, I’m interested in turning AI models into products and services by building end-to-end machine learning systems around these models. Most of my early career centred around models themselves – building their datasets and training them. Overall, I’m broadly interested in many topics relating to AI and ML engineering. You can view my résumé or connect with me on LinkedIn to learn more.

I created my blog to share some of my thoughts and ideas. I find the blogging format a useful way for me to practice technical and quantitative communication. Another place that I do this is on Learn and Burn, which is a weekly newsletter where I contribute summaries of recent machine learning papers.

My academic background

Between 2021 and 2024, I completed a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Paul Kennedy in the School of Computer Science at the University of Technology Sydney. My research focused on understanding cancer treatment patterns in Australia using several administrative healthcare datasets, such as Australia’s national cancer registry. I developed a general framework for self-supervised network inference on tabular data and synthetic data methods for generating realistic patient trajectories.

Me, personally

When I’m not doing ML stuff, I like reading (mostly non-fiction) and listening to music (I like most music, but I particularly like the excitement of listening to new music). If you would like to see what music I’m listening to at the moment, you can check out my last.fm profile. I also keep a list of my favourite albums from the past few years (ever since I began keeping such a list), which you can find here. I also enjoy bush walks, snowboarding, and cooking.
